Material Communication

One would think that 'Communication' only happens between human beings, animals, and devices. Basically, living things. All though devices might not be considered as 'living' , if you look closer to them, you will see that they are. For example, your car key holds 'life'. When you insert your key in the ignition, your car turns on. The car becomes alive. The engine and all the parts communicate with one another. When you put your car in reverse, it reverses. Your automatic stick communicates to the gears that you as a Driver wants to back out. The gears recieves the message and your car backs out. The communication is not heard through voices, but the noises your car makes is equivalent to a stock market place. When your engine sputters, it is telling you the Driver that something is wrong. Which explains why mechanics always start your car to 'hear' what is wrong with it. Mechanics speak the car language, that is why they are mechanics. This is communication when you look at it from this perspective.

In another case, commuincation also happens with non-living things. For example, the way you dress can communicate to others what kind of person you are. If you wear dirty clothes with holes in them, one would assume that you are a bum. On the other hand, if you wear suits and ties all the time, then it can be assume that you are a business man. When you think about it, it is another form of 'communication' in a non-verbal way.

In the world of articles and magazines, authors use red or bold letters to scream for attention. According to Michale Moore's book/article "Idiot Nation", he addresses that America is a country full of idiots. Through his statistics, a large percentage of Americans don't read. He claims that most have drowned in the media world, and nobody has time to read the paper or books. Especially, in a world like today where everything is digitized, it is hard to go back to the 'physical' world where eveything could be touched, tortured, you get the idea.

As a marketing strategy, the red or bold letters used in any publication digital or not can attract more viewers than plain letters. So if Michale Moore's theory is right, then that will mean that authors who compose material have to get their hands dirty dealing with the 'illiterate' world. By getting their hands dirty, they have to false advertise or get to the point quickly. For example, Walmart always emphasizes on how customers will save when they shop. "Pay less, Save more" is in red letters and the Walmart name is in white. They would rather sell their slogan first before the name. Since the economy is in bad shape, their tactic works. People wanna get more without spending a fortune. Walmart is able to uphold their word with their low prices. Which explains why they are the dominant force in the market business.

  1. Consider expanding your blog by introducing links, images, etc. The Idiot Nation reference would have been easily and interestingly linked.
